Responsibilities: 
  • Collect ground control points so that imagery is properly geo-referenced.
  • Work with Field Mapper to ground truth and map estate.
  • Write a daily log of traces, tasks accomplished, challenges and areas visited.
  • Focus on the mapping and digitizing certain aspects of land.
  • Make sure that the Mapping and Imagery Department at Earthline understands the map data.
  • Write clear comments in the attribute table so that there is not a misunderstanding in the office.
Work Activities:
  • Processing Map Data — Using MapInfo and GPS devices to collect and enter data gathered in the field. 
  • Processing Information — Compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data.
  • Getting Information — Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.  Reading maps, reading technical drawings, researching property records.
  • Analyzing Data or Information — Identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts.
  • Identifying Objects, Actions, and Events — Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
  • Documenting/Recording Information — Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic/magnetic form.
  • Communicating with plantation and estate employees – Discuss goals and plans with clients so that we create maps that they need.
     

Requirements:
  • Experience with Trimble and Garmin GPS units
  • Understands Geographic Information Systems (we work with MapInfo)
  • Confident and self-motivated
  • Willing to travel, get dirty and work in the field (85% of time, maybe more)
  • English proficiency
  • Have good problem solving skill and analysis.
  • An innovative, hardworking, self motivated personality, flexible  and very self-disciplined.
  • Able to work as an individual as well as in a team.
